ABSTRACT
Purpose: The Aim Of This Study Is To Evaluate The Role Of Fibrin Glue In Closure Of A Large Oroantral Fistula Clinically And Radiographically.
Materials and Methods: A Prospective Study Was Done On 14 Patients Complaining Of Large Oroantral Fistulae Following Extraction Of Maxillary Posterior Teeth. The Patients Were Divided Into 2 Groups. In Group I, The Bony Defect Of The Oroantral Fistula Was Closed By Platelet-rich Fibrin Membrane As A Graft Material And Covered By Buccal Advancement Flap. In Group II, The Fistula Was Closed By Injection Of Fibrin Glue Over The PRF Membrane And Both Covered By Buccal Advancement Flap. The Patients Were Followed Up Clinically After One Week, 4, 6 And 8 Weeks Postoperatively. Radiographic Evaluation Was Performed By Cone Beam CT (CBCT) Pre Operatively And After 8 Weeks Postoperatively.
Results: The Study Included 14 Patients With Age Range From 26 To 65 Years Old. 10 Males And 4 Females Included In The Study Complaining From OAF. The Fistula Size Range From 5 To 18 Mm In The Clinical Widest Diameter. Fistula Closure And Wound Healing Was Greater In The Study Group With Percentage 85.7% While In Control Group 71.4%. We Had Only 2 Failures In The Control Group And One In Study Group.
Conclusion: Fibrin Glue Is A Good Sealant, Adhesive And Hemostatic Component Which Proved Successful Results In Closure Of Large Size OAF.
