ABSTRACT

Objectives: The Purpose Of The Study Was To Evaluate The Efficacy Of Local Anesthesia(LA) Administration On Hemodynamics And Postoperative Pain In Children Undergoing Dental Rehabilitation Under General Anesthesia (GA). Methods: One Hundred Healthy Child Dental Patients, Undergoing Dental Rehabilitation Under G.A, Was Divided Equally Into Two Groups. Group A (study Group): Dental Procedure Was Performed Under General Anesthesia With Use Of Local Anesthesia; Group B (control Group): Dental Procedures Was Performed Under General Anesthesia Without Local Anesthesia. At The Start Of Any Tested Pain-provoking Procedure, Reading Of Vital Signs Or Parameters Was Recorded. Pain Assessed Via The Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) Pain Assessment Tool And The Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale Which Was Used By The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurses To Assess The Prevalence And Intensity Of The Child?s Pain In This Study.

Results: Group B Showed A Statistically Significant Increase In Heart Rate, Blood Pressure And Pain Scores During Dental Extractions And Pulpotomies. Conclusion: Use Of Local Anesthesia Prior To Any Pain-provoking Dental Procedures Under General Anesthesia Seems To Help Patient To Stabilizes Vital Signs And Reduce Postoperative Pain. This May Help In Providing A Safer Anesthesia Environment For Children Undergoing The Dental Treatment Under General Anesthesia .
