ABSTRACT
Aims: The Purpose Of This Study Was To Compare Histomorphometrically And Radiographically The Newly Formed Bone That Was Regenerated Either By Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Or Collagen Plug Following Maxillary Sinus Lifting. Patients And Methods: Nine Patients With Bilateral Edentulous Maxilla Were Subjected To Bilateral Sinus Lifting, Collagen Plug Grafted On The Right Side (Rt) And PRF Grafted On The Left Side (Lt), The Surgery Was Performed In Two Stages. All Patients Were Subjected To Panoramic Radiographs And Dental Computed Tomography (CT) For Preoperative Assessment And 6 Months Postoperatively. At The Second Stage Implants Were Placed And A Core Biopsy Was Harvested For Histomorphometric Evaluation.

Results: There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between Collagen Plug And PRF Side In Bone Height (P Value = 0.97). The Collagen Plug Side Gained A Slight Higher Bone Density In The Newly Formed Bone And Native Bone Than On PRF Side But Without Statistical Significant Difference. The Histomorphometric Analysis Showed Slight Increase In Percentage Of Newly Formed Bone At Collagen Plug Side Than PRF Side, But There Was No Significant Difference Between The Two Sides (p Value = 0.401) And There Was Non-significant Difference In Trabecular Number Between Both Sides (p =0.739). Conclusion: The Use Of Collagen Plug Or PRF Was A Valid Scaffold For Stimulation Of Bone Formation Following Sinus Lifting With No Significant Difference Between Them.
