ABSTRACT

Objectives: The Aim Of The Current Study Was To Assess The Accuracy Of CBCT And Digital Periapical Radiography (PSP) In The Detection Of Strip Root Perforation In The Mesio-lingual Canal Of Mandibular Molars Without Root Canal Obturation.

Materials and Methods: 274 Extracted Human Mandibular Molars Were Recruited, Strip Root Perforation Was Performed At The Danger Zone Of The Mesio-lingual Canals. Without Root Canal Opacification, The Teeth Were Seated In A Dry Human Mandible And Imaged By The Digital Periapical Radiography (PSP) And By CBCT. The Radiographs Were Interpreted By Two Radiologists Following Specific A Scoring System For The Detection Of The Strip Root Perforation.

Results: The Results Of The Current Study Demonstrated That CBCT Showed Higher Sensitivity, Specificity And Accuracy Than The (PSP) Digital Periapical Radiography In The Detection Of The Strip Root Perforation. Conclusion: CBCT Was Found To Be More Accurate Than (PSP) Digital Periapical Radiography In The Detection Of The Strip Root Perforation Without Root Canal Filling Material.
