ABSTRACT
Aim Of The Study: The Aim Of The Present Study Was To Evaluate And Compare The Postoperative Pain After The Use Of Two Different Intracanal Medicaments: Modified Triple Antibiotic Paste (MTAP) And Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2 In Two Visit Root Canal Treatment After 4, 24 And 48 Hours Utilizing A Numeric Rate Scale (NRS).
Methodology: Fifty Patients With Asymptomatic Necrotic Anterior And Premolar Teeth Were Randomly Assigned Into Two Groups; Experimental Group Medicated With1mg/ml Of Readymade Modified Triple Antibiotic Paste (MTAP) And Control Group : Medicated With Calcium Hydroxide Intracanal Medicament Prepared By Mixing 100 Mg Powder With 1ml Distilled Water. Postoperative Pain Was Assessed For Both Groups At 4, 24 And 48 Hours After The First Visit Using A Numerical Rating Scale (NRS).
Results: There Was A Statistically Significant Difference Between Both Groups After 4 Hours Postoperatively, While There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between Both Groups At 24 And 48 Hours. Regarding Pain Incidence, The Overall Occurrence Of Pain And Its Category Was Not Statistically Significant Between Both Groups. In MTAP Group; There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between Median NRS Scores Over Time. However, In Ca(OH)2 Group : There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between NRS Scores Comparing 24 Hours With 48 Hours, While There Was A Statistically Significant Decrease In NRS In All Other Time Periods.
Conclusion: Triple Antibiotic Paste As Anintracanal Medication Showed To Be Effective In Reducing Postoperative Pain When Used In Necrotic Teeth Compared To Calcium Hydroxide.
