ROLE OF CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE PROMOTION OF QUALITY OF DENTAL PRACTICE IN ALEXANDRIA EGYPT

ABSTRACT
The Aim Of This Study Was To Assess The Attitude Of Ministry Of Health Dentists Towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) And To Determine The Perception Of Competency That General Practitioners Got Through Continuing Education Courses (CE) In Their Daily Practice.Methodology: A Questionnaire Was Designed To Give A Better Understanding Of The Impact Of Postgraduate CE Courses On Improving Standards Of Dental Practice. The Questionnaire Itself Contains 34 Questions Ranging From Personal Information To Professional Enquiries (specialization, Degree Type, Work Experience). Data Collection Will Include Hospitals (public, Private, Academic And Military) Research Centers, Health Insurance Clinics, Private Clinics, CPD Courses In The Dental Syndicate, Etc . To Attain A Proper View Of The Overall Opinion On CPD Activities A Sample Size Of 300 Dentist?s Was Used. Results Of The Questionnaire Was Uploaded Into SPSS Program For Statistical Analysis.

Results: Most Of Participants Who Joined The Different CPD Activates Were Under Age Of 30 (n= 170), Most Of Their Interest Were Conference Attendance (51%), While Their Second Choice Was Courses (47.6%), The Age Group With A Range Of 30-50 Years (n=117), Showed The Highest Interest In CPD Courses Followed By Conferences (55.57%). A Total Of 229 Participants (76.3%) Gave A History Of Contribution In Postgraduate Continuous Education Activities. Most Of Them 45% Reported One To Four Activities Annually, And The Most Common Reason Was To Update Their Knowledge Regarding The Advancement In Dental Practice.

Conclusions: It Was Concluded That Dentists In The Age Group Below Thirty Years Showed The Higher Share In CPD Activities And Expressed The Importance Of These Courses On Their Daily Practice. Their Main Interest Was To Update Their Knowledge And Follow New Technology In Dentistry.
