ABSTRACT
Background: Curcumin And Nanocurcumin Have Effective Cytotoxic Anticancer Properties And Have Been Used For Treatment Of Variety Of Malignancies. The Aim Of The Current Study Is To Investigate The Effect Of Curcumin And Nanocurcumin On Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cell Line (HEP-2) After 24 Hours. Material& Method: Treatment Of Cell Line (HEp-2) By Different Concentrations Of Curcumin And Nanocurcumin Was Done To Assess The Viability Of The Treated Cells To Determine The Percentages Of Viable Cells That Was Monitored Using MTT Assay.
Results: The Mean Viability Percentage Of Curcumin Treated Cells (in Relation To Control Cells) Increased From 8.57% To 98.57% As Curcumin Concentration Decreased From 10000mM To 5mM With An IC50 Of 40.However, The Cytotoxic Effect Of Nanocurcumin Treated Cells Increased From 17.08% To 97.84% As Nanocurcumin Concentration Decreased From 10000mM To 5mM With An IC50 Of 77. Morphometric Analysis Showed A Decrease In Nuclear Area Factor (NAF) Which Is An Indicator Of Apoptosis As Concentrations Increased. The Results Were Statistically Significant. Conclusion: Curcumin And Nanocurcumin Have A Significant Anticancer Effect On Hep-2 Cell Line.
