ABSTRACT

Objectives: To Evaluate The Effect Of Locally Delivery Of Chitosan Nanoparticles Gel As An Adjunct To The Therapy Of Moderate Chronic Periodontitis In Smoker Patients.

Materials and Methods: Twinty Adult Smoker Patients Between 40 To 55 Years Old With Moderate Chronic Periodontitis. Patients Were Divided Randomly Into Two Groups Receive One Of The Following Treatments: GroupI Full Mouth SRP Only As Control Group And GroupII SRP Followed By Local Application Of Chitosan Nanoparticles Gel As Test Group. Assigned Treatment Were Performed At Base Line And At 3 Months And Using The Clinical Parameters And ELISA As Immunological Test.

Results: Between Study Group Comparisons Indicated PD Reduction And CAL Gain Were Greater In The Test Groups Than In The Control Group At 3 Months Within Study Group Comparisons Indicated Reduction In MMP-8 In Test Groups Greater Than Control Group.

Conclusions: These Findings Suggest That Locally Delivered Chitosan Nanoparticles Gel Produces Additional Favorable Clinical And Immunological Results To Moderate Chronic Periodontal Therapy In Smoker Patients.
