ABSTRACT
Background: There Are Many Tools For Identification Of Human Remains, Via Radio Graphical Imaging, Histological Processing & Microscopical Examination Of Dental Remains.
Purpose: To Assess And Compare The Accuracy Of Cemental Annulations And Con Beam Computed Tomography For Age Estimation Among Adults
Materials and Methods: One Hundred And Twenty Intact, Non-carious And Single Rooted Extracted Teeth Were Evenly Distributed According To Gender And Different Age Groups In To Four Groups. Each Group Contained 30 Extracted Teeth (10 Incisors, 10 Canines And 10 Premolars). The Ages Of The Patients Ranged From 30 To 69 Years Old. All The Examined Teeth Were Imaged By A Cone Beam Computed Tomography Scanner And Examined By Cemental Annulations
Results: For All Participants, In Total And In The Age Group Between 30 To 50 The Mean Differences Between Chronological Ages And Dental Ages Estimated By Cone Beam Were Significantly Higher Than The Corresponding Values Of The Mean Differences By Cemental Annulations While There Were No Significant Difference In The Age Group Between 50 To 69.
Conclusion: For Total Participants, Teeth Cemental Annulations Method Is More Accurate Than Cone Beam Computed Tomography For Dental Age Estimation In Adult. Considering Gender, Cemental Annulations Method Is A More Accurate Age Predictor Than Cone Beam Computed Tomography Among Males And Total Female Participants. Regarding Teeth Type, Cemental Annulations Method Is A More Precise Age Estimation Tool For Premolars With Equal Accuracy Of Both Methods For Incisors And Canines.
