ABSTRACT
Objective: The Purpose Of This Study Was To Evaluate The Effect Of Adding Ethanolic Extract Of Propolis On Commercially Available Ca(OH)2 Liner On The Setting Time And Solubility.
Materials and Methods: The Materials Used Were Calcium Hydroxide Powder, Ethanolic Extract Of Propolis (EEP) And Distilled Water.
Ethanolic Extract Of Propolis (EEP) Was Prepared Using 70% Ethanol At Room Temperature.
The EEP And Distilled Water Were Used As A Liquid For Mixing The Ca(OH)2 Liner Forming Pastes That Were Divided Into Two Main Groups: Group I (the Control Group): Ca(OH)2 Liner Mixed With Distilled Water Only, Group II (the Intervention Group): Ca(OH)2 Liner Mixed With EEP And Distilled Water.
A Total Of 20 Specimens (n=5 For Each Group Within Each Test) Were Used. For The Setting Time Test; The Specimens Had A Dimension Of (10mm X 2mm) And Were Measured Using Gillmore Needle. Regarding The Solubility Test, The Specimens (20mm X 1.5mm) Were Prepared And The Solubility Of The Mix Was Measured.
Results: For The Setting Time, The Results Revealed Significant Differences Between The Two Groups Where The Intervention Group Was Found To Set Faster Than The Control. However, Insignificant Difference In The Solubility Test Between The Two Groups Was Detected.
Conclusion: Based On The Results Of The Present Study, It Was Concluded That The Addition Of 70% EEP And Distilled Water, Decreases The Setting Time And Did Not Affect The Solubility Of An Available Commercially Ca(OH)2 Powder Used As Pulp Capping Material.
