ABSTRACT
Aim: Is To Compare The Effect Of Pulpotec And Ca(OH)2 Intra-coronal Dressing On Inter-appointment Pain Relief For Symptomatic Posterior Teeth With Acute Pulpitis With Periodontitis.
Materials and Methods: The Trial Design Is A Parallel Double Blind Randomized Controlled Study; The Patients In This Study Were Randomly Assigned Into Two Groups, 22 Patients In Each Group (using Random Allocation Sequence That Was Done In The Center Of Evidence-based Dentistry ? Cairo University) GROUP A: Will Receive Ca(OH)2 Dressing And GROUP B: Will Receive Pulpotec Dressing. All Selected Patients Were Subjected To Pulpotomy. The Primary Outcome Was The Degree Of Pain Relieving After The Procedure By 8, 12, 24, 48 Hrs And Was Measured Using The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Secondary Outcome Was Following Up Pain Using The (VAS) After 1, 3 And 6 Mos. And To Evaluate Procedure Effect Both Clinically And Radiographically.
Results: The Outcome Of This Study Showed That Using Ca(OH)2 And Pulpotec As Intracoronal Dressing Materials Resulted In Clinically Significant Reduction In Post Endodontic Pain At All Post-operative Follow-up Periods (8,12,24) Hrs, While Significant Reduction Of Pain For Pulpotec At The 48 Hrs Of The Post-operative Follow-up Period. After 8 Hrs,?Group B Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Prevalence Of No Pain And Mild Pain. Group A Showed Higher Prevalence Of Moderate Pain.?After 12 Hrs And 24 Hrs,?Group B Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Prevalence Of No Pain. Group A Showed Higher Prevalence Of Mild Pain. After?48?hours,?there Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between The Two Groups. After 1 Mo,?Group B Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Prevalence Of?no Pain. Group A Showed Higher Prevalence Of?severe?pain. All Cases In Group A Needed Root Canal Treatment After 3 And 6 Mos In Comparison To One Case In Group B That Needed Root Canal Treatment After 6 Mos Due To Persistence Of Pain On Percussion. Conclusion: Although Ca(OH)2 Succeeded In Relieving Pain Of Acute Pulpitis With Apical Periodontitis Within 48 Hours From Its Initial Insertion In Pulp Chamber; However, It Failed To Relief Pain Over Long Period Of Time And Failed To Improve The Periodontal Condition. While High Levels Of Effectiveness Of Pulpotec, For Sealing The Pulp Stumps Of Teeth Treated For Pulpitis By The Vital Pulpotomy Method And In Relieving Acute Pain In Apical Periodontitis.
