ABSTRACT

Purpose: This Study Aimed To Compare The Translucency Of Monolithic Versus Layered Zirconia In Three Different Shades, A1, A2, And A3.

Materials & Methods: 30 Disc Specimens Of 10 Mm Diameter And 2 Mm Thickness Were Divided In 2 Main Groups. Group I (Monolithic), And Group II (Layered), With A Count Of 15 Specimens Foeach Group. Group I Specimens Were Fabricated Entirely From CAD/CAM Ceramill?Zolid Zirconia, While Group II Had Cores Of 1mm Thickness Ceramill?Zolid Zirconia Veneered With 1mm Thickness VITA VM?9 Porcelain. Each Group Was Divided Into 3 Subgroups According To The Different Shades Used (A1, A2, And A3). All Specimens Were Tested Using UV Spectrophotometer, (Cary 5000, Agilent Technologies, USA). Translucency Parameter (TP) And Contrast Ratio (CR) Of All Specimens Were Calculated. Data Were Statistically Analyzed With F-test (ANOVA) And Student T-test.

Results: The Statistical Analysis Showed Significant Results In Comparing The Different Techniques Of Fabrications. On Comparing The Mean Values Of All Study Subgroups, Subgroup II-A1 Showed The Highest TP (TP = 5.91) And The Lowest CR (CR = 0.85), Followed By Subgp. II-A2 (TP = 5.697 / CR = 0.853), Subgp.II-A3 (TP = 5.45 / CR = 0.87), Subgp.I-A1 (TP = 4.24 / CR = 0.893), Subgp. I-A2 (TP = 4.128 / CR = 0.903), And I-A3 As The Lowest TP (TP = 4.014) And The Highest CR (CR = 0.927). On The Contrary, Insignificant Results Were Observed When Comparing Different Shades Within The Same Main Group (p ? 0.05). Conclusion: The Fabrication Techniques Affected Specimen Translucency Significantly, Where Group II Showed A Significant Higher TP Than Group I. On The Other Hand, Different Color Shades Used In The Present Study Showed Insignificant Effect On The Specimens TP Values In The Same Group.
