ABSTRACT
Background: Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) Is A Chronic Immunologic Disorder. Patients With OLP Have An Increased Risk Of Developing Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC). Smoking Is Associated With Potentially Malignant Disorders Of The Oral Mucosa As OLP. In This Study We Aimed To Determine The Effect Of Smoking On ABCG2 Protein Expression In OLP Patients As An Assessment For Malignant Transformation.

Materials and Methods: Patients Were Divided Into Four Groups; 10 Individuals In Each Group With A Total Number Of 40 Individuals As Follows: Group I: Non-smoker Control, Group II: Smoker Control, Group III: Non-smoker Patients With OLP And Group IV: Smoker Patients With OLP. Area Percent Of Immunohistochemical Expression Of ABCG2 Was Measured By Software Leica Qwin 500.

Results: The Greatest Mean Area Percent Was Recorded In Lichen/ Smoker Group, Whereas The Lowest Value Was Recorded In The Control Group. The Difference Between All Groups Was Not Statistically Significant. Conclusion: ABCG2 Could Not Be Used As A Predictor For Malignant Transformation In Smoker OLP Patients As It Was Not Significantly Overexpressed In These Patients.
