PREVALENCE OF MOLAR INCISOR HYPOMINERALIZATION AMONG A GROUP OF EGYPTIAN CHILDREN IN DAKAHLIA GOVERNORATE: A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
Background: MIH Is Considered An Example Of Life Time Prevalence Where It Occurred At Some Time Before The Examination And Till The Time Of Recording The Data The Defect Still Exists And Remains All The Life. So Prevalence Studies Are Important For Patients And Dental Practitioner To Apply Appropriate Measures In Order To Limit The Effect Of MIH.

Aim: To Assess The Prevalence Of MIH Among A Group Of Egyptian Children Aged From 8-12 Years Old, In Dakahlia Governorate Schools.Methodology: The Study Was Carried Out On 10% Of Children Aged From 8 To 12 Years Old Who Attended Primary Governmental Schools In Dakahlia Governorate. Personal Data As Well As Medical History And Any Previous Dental History Were Recorded For Each Child In A Custom Made Examination Chart. Clinical Examination Was Carried Out In The School Laboratory Or An Empty Class, In Day Light. Teeth Were Cleaned Gently Using Gauze Then Wet With Saliva During Examination. A Disposable Diagnostic Set Was Used For Each Patient To Detect The Presence Or Absence Of MIH And Its Severity Based On European Academy Of Pediatric Dentistry Criteria And Scores Were Recorded In The Chart.

Results: The Prevalence Of MIH In The Present Study Was (5.8%) Among 52968 Examined Egyptian Children In Dakahlia Governorate Schools, 51.5% Were Females While 48.5% Were Male. Conclusion: Prevalence Of MIH In This Study Was 5.8% With Female Predilection And The Most Common Degree Of Severity Of MIH In This Studied Population Was Mild Degree
