ABSTRACT
Aim Of Study: To Evaluate The Effect Of Simvastatin Gel In Surgical Management Of Intrabony Defects In Periodontitis.Patients And Methods: Twenty Patients With A Total Number Of 40 Intrabony Defects As Determined Clinically And Radiographically Were Selected For The Study. The Selected Sites Were Treated With Access Fla Surgery And Were Divided Into Two Groups: Group I (control Group) Was Treated With Open Fla Depridement Only (OFD) And Group II (study Group) Treated With OFD + 1.2% SMV Gel. The Following Clinical And Radiographic Parameters Were Recorded At Baseline, 3 Months And 6 Months Post Operatively Probing Pocket Depth(PPD); Clinical Attachment Level (CAL) ; Modifie Sulcular Bleeding Index (mSBI); Plaque Index (PI); Alveolar Bone Loss (ABL); Bone Density (BD).

Results: Both Groups Showed Improvement In Clinical And Radiographic Parameters Although They Are Statistically Insignificant.Upon Comparing The Results Of Both Treatment Modalities, No Statistically Significantdifference Was Detected Regarding MSBI, PI, PD, CAL, ABL And BD Scores Along The Whole Studied Period With P-value >0.05. Conclusion: Treatment Of Intrabony Periodontal Defects With 1.2% SMV Gel Led To More Improvement In Clinical And Radiographic Outcomes As Compared To OFD, However, The Difference Between The Two Groups Was Statistically In-significant For Any Of The Parameter Measured
