THE ASSESSMENT OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF BIOROOT? RCS SEALER AND AH PLUS SEALER IN COMPARISON TO ZINC OXIDE EUGENOL SEALER AGAINST ENTEROCOCCUS FAECALIS BIOFILMS USING A NOVEL DENTIN INFECTION MODEL : INVITRO STUDY

ABSTRACT


Introduction: The Purpose Of This Study Was To Assess The Antibacterial Activity Of BioRoot?RCS Sealer And AH Plus Sealer In Comparison To Tubli SealTM Sealer On Enterococcus Fecalis Biofilmby Using Dentin Block Infection Model And Confocal Laser Scanning Electron Microscope. Methods: E. Faecalis Bacteria Was Used As A Test Organism. Forty Two Dentin Specimens Were Prepared From A Human Single Rooted Teeth Infected With E. Faecalis Biofilmsand Incubated For 3 Weeks. The Tested Sealers (BioRoot? RCS Sealer, AH Plus Sealer And Tubli SealTM Sealer) Were Mixed According To Manufacturer?s Instructions, Then Added To The Root Canal Wall Of The Dentin Specimen In Equal Thickness And Placed At 370C In 100% Relative Humidity For 1, 7, And 30 Days. The Ratio Of Dead And Live Bacteria Inside The Dentinal Tubule Was Measured By Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope.

Results: More Bacteria Were Killed In The Two Sealer Groups (BioRoot? RCS Sealer, AH Plus Sealer) Than Tubli SealTM Sealer. BiorootTM RCS Sealer And Tubli SealTM Sealer Showed A Statistically Significantbacterial Killing At All 3 Time Points (p<0.05). AH Plus And Tubli SealTM Sealers At 7 Days Showed No Statistical Difference But At 30 Days, The 3 Sealers Were Statistically Different.

Conclusions: The 3 Endodontic Root Canal Sealers Had Antibacterial Effects Against E. Faecalis In The Dentinal Tubules. Bioroot? RCS Sealer And AH Plus Had Superior Antibacterial Effects Compared To Tubli SealTM Sealer.

POST-OPERATIVE PAIN AFTER REMOVAL OF INTRACANAL MEDICATION WITH DIFFERENT IRRIGATION ACTIVATION TECHNIQUES

ABSTRACT


Aim: This Study Aimed To Evaluate The Effect Of The XP-Endo Finisher (XPF), Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation (PUI) And Conventional Irrigation Using Side-vented Needle (SVN) On Post-operative Pain After The Removal Of Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2 And Double Antibiotic Paste (DAP) From Necrotic Mandibular Single Rooted Teeth. Method And Materials: Seventy-two Patients Were Included. After Confirmingthe Diagnosis Clinically And Radiographically In The Firstvisit, Standard Endodontic Treatment Was Performed Using ProTaper Next NiTi Files(Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) Up To X4. Depending On The Type Of Intracanal Medication Used Ca(OH)2 And DAP, Patients Were Assigned Randomly Into 2 Groups (n=36). After One Week, Patients In Each Group Were Randomly Assigned Into 3 Sub-groups (n=12) According To The Method Used For Medicament Removal: XPF, PUI And SVN. Pain Was Assessed Postoperatively After 4, 12, 24, 48, 72 And 96 Hours After The Second Visit Using Modifiedvisual Analogue Scale (VAS). In The Third Visit, Teeth Were Obturated By Lateral Compaction Technique And Resin Sealer. Data Were Statistically Analyzed Using Kruskal Wallis Test Followed By Multiple Mann Whitney U Test With Bonferroni Correction. Intragroup Comparisons Were Done Using Freidman?s Test Followed By Dunn?s Post Hoc Test.

Results: Regarding The Technique Used For Removal Of Intracanal Medication, In Both Groups SVN Showed The Highest Significantpain Score Followed By PUI While XPF Showed The Lowest Mean Value At 4,12,24 And 48 Hours. While, No Significantdifference Obtained Between Them At 72 And 96 Hours. In All Groups, Pain Intensity Was Significantlyhigh At 12 Hours Then Reduced Gradually As The Time Increased.

Conclusions: The Use Of XPF And PUI During The Removal Of Intracanal Medication Results In Less Postoperative Pain.

EFFICACY OF XP-ENDO FINISHER FILE VERSUS PASSIVE ULTRASONIC IRRIGATION IN REMOVING CALCIUM HYDROXIDE FROM ROOT CANALS WITH DIFFERENT IRRIGATING SOLUTIONS (AN IN VITRO STUDY)

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The Aim Of This Study Was To Evaluate The Efficacyof The XP-Endo Finisher Filein The Removal Of Calcium Hydroxide From Straight Root Canals Of Single Rooted Teeth In Combination With Either Sodium Hypochlorite Plus Citric Acid Compared With That Of Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation.

Materials and Methods: Fifty Two Human Extracted Single Rooted Teeth With Single Straight Root Canals Were Selected And Prepared Using ProTaper Rotary Instruments Up To Size F3 (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland). Calcium Hydroxide (MetaPaste, Meta Biomed Co, Cheongju, Korea) Intracanal Medication Was Placed Inside The Root Canals And Sealed With Temporary Fillingfor 7 Days. The Samples Were Then Randomly Divided Into Two Equal Groups According To The Technique Of Calcium Hydroxide Removal And Each Group Was Further Subdivided Into Two Equal Subgroups According To The Irrigation Protocol.

Results: The Combination Of Sodium Hypochlorite + Citric Acid In Comparison To Sodium Hypochlorite Alone Was Significanty Effective In Removing Calcium Hydroxide From The Coronal Third With XP-Endo Finisher While With Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation, The Combination Was Significantlyeffective In Removing Calcium Hydroxide From The Three Root Canal Thirds As Well As The Total Surface Area. Irrespective Of The Irrigation Protocol, There Were No Statistically Significantdifferences Between XP-Endo Finisher And Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation In Removing. Calcium Hydroxide From The Three Root Canal Thirds And The Total Surface Area.

Conclusions: It Can Be Concluded That None Of The Tested Methods (techniques Of Activation And Irrigation Protocols Were Able To Completely Remove Calcium Hydroxide From The Root Canal Walls. The Combination Of 5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite + 10% Citric Acid Either With XP-Endo Finisher Or Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation Recorded A Smaller Amount Of Calcium Hydroxide Remnants In The Root Canal Walls In Comparison To 5.25% Sodium Hypochlorite Alone.
