EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF PROPOLIS VERSUS CALCIUM HYDROXIDE INTRACANAL MEDICAMENTS ON POST-OPERATIVE PAIN IN PATIENTS WITH NECROTIC PULP: A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL (PART III*)

ABSTRACT
This Study Was To Evaluate The Effect Of Propolis Compared To Calcium Hydroxide As Intracanal Medicaments On Postoperative Pain In Patients With Necrotic Pulp With Or Without Asymptomatic Periapical Periodontitis During Two Visit Treatment. Methods: Fifty Six Participants With Necrotic Pulp In Single Root Single Canal Teeth Were Included In This Study. After Confirming The Diagnosis Clinically And Radiographically, Access Cavity In Single Canal Teeth Was Done Under Rubber Dam Isolation Using A Sterile Round Bur And Flared By Tapered Round Stone. Cleaning And Shaping Was Done Using Crown-down Technique With Coronal Preflaring Using Sx At Coronal Two Thirds For Establishing Straight Line Access. ProTaper Universal Nickel-titanium Rotary Files System Was Used For Mechanical Preparation Using MAF (F2 Till F5) According To The Resistance Of The Hand Files. Canal Was Irrigated Between Every Subsequent Instrument With 3mL Of 2.5 % Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl). Final Irrigant Rinse Was Done, Before Application Of Intracanal Medicament Using 5ml Of 17% EDTA Solution Followed By 5ml Of 2.5% NaOCl With Saline In Between And The Canal Was Dried Using Sterile Paper Points. Then Patients Were Randomly Assigned Into Two Equal Groups (calcium Hydroxide Group And Propolis Group), The Intracanal Medicament Assigned Was Applied And Then The Access Cavity Was Sealed. Patients Were Instructed To Rate Their Post-operative Pain Score At 24, 48, 72 Hours Then After 7 Days At The Day Of The Second Visit By Using The Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NRS). After 7 Days The Intracanal Medicament Was Removed Then Root Canal Was Obturated.

Results: The Results Of This Study Showed That There Was No Statistically Significant Difference In Reduction Of Post-operative Pain Between Calcium Hydroxide Paste And Propolis Paste In Patient With Necrotic Pulp At 24 Hours, 72 Hours And 7 Days. However, There Was A Statistically Significant Difference In Reduction Of Post-operative Pain Intensity Between Two Groups At 48 Hours.

Conclusions: Propolis Was More Effective In The Reduction Of The Intensity Of Post-operative Pain After 48 Hours Compared To Calcium Hydroxide.

The Objective Of The Present Trial Was To Compare The Incidence And Intensity Of Postoperative Pain After Using Reciproc Or One Shape Nickel-titanium Systems For Root Canal Instrumentation. Methods: Fifty Four Patients Diagnosed With Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis Were Equally Assigned Into 2 Groups, Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) Or One Shape (MicroMega, Besan?on Cedex, France), According To The Root Canal Instrumentation Technique. Root Canal Treatment Was Completed In A Single Visit. At The End Of The Visit, Participants Were Asked To Rate The Intensity Of Postoperative Pain On The Numerical Rating Scale At 6, 12, 24, 48 And 72 Hours.

Results: Both Reciproc And One Shape Groups Had No Statistically Significant Difference In The Incidence Of Post-operative Pain At Different Follow-up Periods (6,12,24,48, And 72 Hours Post-treatment) After Single Visit Root Canal Treatment In Patients With Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis. Conclusion: The Intensity Of Postoperative Pain And Analgesic Intake Were Similar In Both Groups.

The Objective Of The Present Trial Was To Compare The Incidence Of Postoperative Pain And The Amount Of Analgesic Intake After Using Reciproc Or One Shape Nickel-titanium Systems For Root Canal Instrumentation. Subjects And Methods: Fifty-four Patients With Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis Were Assigned To 2 Groups According To The Root Canal Instrumentation Technique, Reciproc (VDW, Munich, Germany) Or One Shape (MicroMega, Besan?on Cedex, France). Treatment Was Completed In A Single Visit. At The End Of The Visit, Participants Were Asked To Rate The Intensity Of Postoperative Pain On The Numerical Rating Scale At 6, 12, 24, 48 And 72 Hours. Participants Were Also Given Ibuprofen 400 Mg To Be Taken In Case Of Intolerable Pain And Asked To Record The Number Of Analgesic Tablets Taken At These Time Points.

Results: No Statistically Significant Difference Was Found In Terms Of Incidence Of Postoperative Pain Nor The Analgesic Intake At The Assessed Time Points.

Conclusions: Instrumentation Kinematics Had No Impact On Intensity Of Postoperative Pain.

Objective: Long-term Success Of Dental Implants Depends On Implant Abutment Connection . This Prospective Study Aims To Assess Bone Level Changes Around Implants With Self Locking Conical Connection And Traditional Platform Implant Abutment Connection With Mandibular Telescopic Supported Overdenture.

Materials and Methods: Twelve Completely Edentulous Patients Were Selected From The Outpatient Clinic Of The Prosthodontics Department; Faculty Of Dentistry, Minia University. Two Root Form Implants Were Inserted In Canine Area Bilaterally In Each Patient One Is Self -locking Implant Abutment Connection While The Other Is Traditional Platform ,then Telescopic Overdenture Was Constructed Over The Two Implant. The Crestal Bone Level Was Evaluated At 3,6,9,and 12 Months.

Results: The Mean Bone Heights At Different Intervals Of Self-locking Implant Abutments Connection Were 0.12?0.13 , 0.36?0.13, 0.51?0.06, 0.70?0.22,and0.81?0.25 At Baseline Three, Six, Nine And Twelve Months Respectively , While With Traditional Platform Implant Abutment Connation The Mean Bone Height Were T0.36?0.15, 0.58?0.13, 0.73?0.21, 0.82?0.15, And 0.98?0.18 At Baseline Three, Six, Nine And Twelve Months Respectively. Conclusion: Self Locking Conical Connection Implant Abutment Connection May Lead To Lower Rate Of Bone Resorption Rather The Dental Implants In Implant Supported Overdenture.

Objectives: The Study Evaluated Color Stability Of Two Machinable Restorative Materials, Resin Nano Ceramics (Lava Ultimate, 3M ESPE) And Poly Ether Ether Ketone Ceramics (Bio HPP, Bredent GmbH) After Immersion In Different Staining Solutions (coffee, Tea, Pepsi And Distilled Water As Control Group).

Materials and Methods: Forty Upper Central Teeth Were Prepared For Crowns And Divided Into Two Main Groups According To The Type Of Material Used; Twenty For Lava Ultimate And Twenty For Bio HPP. Each Group Was Subdivided Into Four Subgroups Five Specimens Each To Be Immersed In Three Different Staining Solutions; (coffee, Tea And Pepsi( And Distilled Water As Control Group, For Color Stability Test After A Month Using Spectrophotometer.

Results: A Statistical Insignificant Difference In Color Change Mean Values Was Found Between Lava Ultimate Group And Bio Hpp Group, Coffee Showed The Highest Mean Value Of Color Change Followed By Tea Then Pepsi. Conclusion: Resin Nano Ceramic Materials Are More Susceptible To Discoloration Than PEEK Ceramics. Coffee Has The Highest Ability To Stain Restorative Materials.

ABSTRACT


Aim: The Aim Of This Prospective, Randomized, Placebo-controlled Clinical Trial Was To Evaluate The Effect Of Pre-operative, Single-dose Clindamycin On Post-operative Pain In Patients With Symptomatic Apical Periodontitis Treated In One Visit. Methods: Seventy-two Participants Diagnosed With Symptomatic Apical Periodontitis In Their Mandibular Posterior Teeth Were Included. Patients Were Randomly Assigned Into Either Of Two Groups: Clindamycin Group, Where A Pre-operative, Single-dose Of Clindamycin (600 Mg) Or Placebo Group, Where Pre-operative Placebo Was Given (n=36). After 30 Minutes Of Receiving Medication, Root Canal Treatment Was Performed In A Single Visit. Patients Were Instructed To Rate Their Pain Felt After Endodontic Procedure In A Pain Diary At 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 Hours And At Day 7 Using A Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Data Were Statistically Analyzed And The Significant Level (?) Was Set As 0.05.

Results: Both Groups Were Similar Regarding Baseline Characteristics, Including: Age, Gender, Canal-number Distribution, Tooth Type And Preoperative Pain (p>0.05). There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between Both Groups In Post-operative Pain Intensity Or Incidence At Any Of The Follow-up Time Points (p>0.05). Conclusion: Pre-operative Administration Of A Single-dose Of 600 Mg Clindamycin Does Not Seem To Affect Post-operative Pain Intensity Or Incidence For Patients With Mandibular Posterior Teeth With Symptomatic Apical Periodontitis Treated In A Single Visit.

However, There Was A Statistically Significant Difference In Reduction Of Post-operative Pain Between Two Groups At 48 Hours.

Conclusions: It Could Be Concluded That The Intracanal Use Of Calcium Hydroxide And Propolis Was Effective In Controlling Incidence And Intensity Of Post-operative Pain. The Intracanal Use Of Propolis Was Effective In Rapidly Controlling Post-operative Pain With No Side Effects.

Methods:Human Tongue Squamous Carcinoma Cell Line (SCC-15) Was Used In This Study.Different Concentrations Of 5-fluorouracil And Eucalyptus Oil Were Prepared And Applied For 24 And 48 Hours On The Used Cell Line. The Yellow Tetrazoliumsalt (MTT) Assay Was Used For Evaluation Of Cytotoxicity Ofeach5-fluorouracil And Eucalyptus Oil.The Quantitative Sandwich Immunoassay ELISA Technique Was Used For The Assessment Of Caspase-3 Expression In The Treated Cell Line.

Results: MTT Assay Revealed That 5-fluorouracil And Eucalyptus Oil Showed A Significant Cytotoxic Effecton SCC-15cell Line. ABSTRACT
The Aim Of The Present Study Was To Evaluate And Compare The Post-operative Pain After Single Visit And Multiple Visit Root Canal Treatment In Asymptomatic Necrotic Mandibular Molars Using OneShape Rotary Instrument After 6, 24, 48 Hours And 7 Days Using Modified Visual Analogue Scale (mVAS).

Materials and Methods: Forty Four Patients With Asymptomatic Non Vital Mandibular Molars Were Included In This Trial. After Confirming The Diagnosis Clinically And Radiographically, Patients Were Randomly Assigned Into Two Equal Groups Of 22 Patients Each. The Single Visit Endodontic Treatment Assigned To The Intervention Group, While Multiple Visit Endodontic Treatment Assigned To The Control Group. Standard Endodontic Treatment Was Performed For Both Groups Using Rotary OneShape Files For Shaping, 2.6% Sodium Hypochlorite For Irrigation And Single Cone Technique With Resin Sealer For Obturation. No Intracanal Medicament Was Used In The Multiple Visits Group.

Results: Results Showed That There Was No Significant Difference In Postoperative Pain (at 6, 24, 48 Hours And 7 Days) Between Single Visit And 1st Visit Of Multiple Visit Groups. But There Was A Significant Difference Between Single Visit And 2nd Visit Of Multiple Visits Group In Postoperative Pain At 6h, 24h And 48 Hours, And There Was No Significant Difference In Postoperative Pain After 7 Days. Conclusion: Within The Limitation Of The Present Study, It Can Be Concluded That: There Is No Statistical Difference In Postoperative Pain (at 6, 24, 48hours And 7 Days) Between Single Visit And 1st Visit Of Multiple Visit Groups. The Incidence And Intensity Of Postoperative Pain In Both Groups Gradually Reduced Over The Study Period. The Highest Prevalence Of Postoperative Pain Was Higher During 24 Hours In Single Visit Group And After 1st Visit In Multiple Visit Group. There Is A Significant Difference Between Single Visit And 2nd Visit Of Multiple Visit Group In Postoperative Pain At 6h, 24h Hours, And There Was No Significant Difference In Postoperative Pain After 48hours And 7 Days.

Background: Dental Caries Is The Most Prevalent Disease Worldwide. It?s One Of The Greatest Challenges To The Integrity Of The Developing Tooth. Indirect Pulp Therapy Is Proposed As An Alternative To The Usual Care For Carious Lesion Management. However There Is No Sufficient Evidence That Supports That Technique And Best Capping Materials. Methods: Randomized, Clinical Trial To Evaluate The Clinical And Radiographic Success Of Indirect Pulp Capping. Using Two-step Antibacterial Bonding System Versus Conventional One. This Study Was Carried Out On Thirty Six Children. Divided In Two Groups; One Group Had ?One Step? Indirect Pulp Capping Using Antibacterial Bonding, Another One Had The Same Treatment But With Conventional Bonding. Clinical And Radiographic Follow Up Was Carried Out Immediate Postoperative, Two, And Nine Months.

Results: By Statistical Analysis It Was Found That Both Groups Were Comparable In Postoperative Pain (p=1.000). As Regards Secondary Outcomes, Clinically; There Was No Pain On Percussion, Swelling, Or Sinus Tract. Radiographically; There Wasn?t Any Adverse Radiographic Findings. Conclusion: The ?One Step? Indirect Pulp Capping Technique Has Promising Clinical And Radiographic Success Over 9 Months Follow Up. Perfect Seal Regardless Of Capping Material Is The Key Of Success In Case Of Indirect Pulp Capping.
