ABSTRACT


Aim: The Aim Of This Study Was To Introduce And Evaluate A New Technique For Socket Preservation Involving Internal Expansion Of The Buccal Plate Of The Extraction Socket Using Internal Flaplesscorticotomy And Bone Grafting The Extraction Socket With Application Of Bioresorbable Membrane In Comparison With The Conventional Guided Bone Regeneration Technique For Socket Preservation.Methods: 22 Patients With 22 Non Restorable Teeth Requiring Atraumatic Tooth Extraction In The Maxillary Anterior Or Premolar Area Ranging To The Second Premolar With An Intact Buccal Plate Of Bone And No Periapical Pathosis. They Were Randomized Into 2 Groups, 11 Patients In The Test Group In Which Extraction Socket Preservation Using Buccal Plate Expansion Technique Is Performed , And 11 Patients In The Control Group In Which Socket Preservation With Guided Bone Regeneration Technique Using Natural Bovine Bone Mineral And Collagen Bio- Resorbable Membrane Was Performed. Post-operative Pain And Swelling Were Recorded.

Results: Higher Mean And Median Post-operative Pain Were Recorded In The Test Group 2.29 (?2.21) While In The Control Group 0.94 (?1.36). The Difference Between Groups Was Statistically Significant(p=0.00). The Same Median Value Of Post-operative Swelling Was Recorded In Both Groups, With A Higher Mean Value Recorded In The Test Group 1.62 (?0.73) While The Control Group 1.29(?0.56), The Difference Between Groups Was Statistically Significant (p=0.001)Conclusion: Higher Post-operative Pain And Swelling Was Observed With The Buccal Plate Expansion Technique For Alveolar Socket Preservation In Comparison To The Standard Method.

ABSTRACT
Objective: The Purpose Of This Study Was To Investigate Effect Of Corrosion On Some Properties Of Dental Ceramics. Materials And Method: Thirty Samples Were Constructed And Divided Into 3 Groups According To Ceramic Materials Used (8 Samples For Each) Group 1 (E Max), Group 2 (High Translucent Zirconia (DD BioZx2)) And Group 3 (Opaque Zirconia. (DD BioZ)). Then Each Group Was Subdivided Into Three Subgroups (3 Samples Each) According To Sequence Of Tests Performed. Then 4 Samples From Each Subgroup Were Subjected To Acetic Acid As A Corrosive Agent. Those Samples Were Firstweighted, After That Subjected To Corrosion Test, Then Weighted Again To Determine Weight Loss Of Each Sample And Tested For And Biaxial Flexuralstrength (BFS). 5 Samples For Biaxial Flexuralstrength(controlled) And 5 Samples For The Biaxial Flexuralstrength Test After Corrosion Test.using The Weight Loss To Determine The Corrosion Test And Using Universal Testing Machine. Statistical Analysis Was Performed With Two-way Repeated Measure ANOVA.Result: It Was Found That There Was No Statistically Significantdifference Between (E-Max), (High Translucent Zirconia (DD BioZx2)) And (Zirconia) Where (p= 0.126) In BFS Test.Conclusion: Corrosion Did Not Affected The Flexural Strength Of All Tested Ceramics

REGAINING OF NORMAL MOUTH OPENING AFTER RIGID FIXATION OF ANGLE FRACTURE USING (K) SHAPED TITANIUM MINIPLATE VERSUS TWO MINIPLATES

ABSTRACT
Objective: The Aim Of The Current Study Was To Compare Clinically The Maximum Interincisal Mouth Opening After Reduction Of Angle Fracture Using Two Miniplates Versus Single (k) Shaped Plate. Patients And Methods: Thirty-eight Patients With A Mandibular Angle Fracture Were Treated Using Open Reduction And Internal Fixation Using Rigid Fixation. Patients Were Randomly Allocated According To Method Of Fixation Into Two Groups. The Intervention Was Treated With (K) Shaped Titanium Miniplate, While The Control Group Was Treated With Conventional Two Miniplates. Clinical Evaluation Of Maximum Interincisal Mouth Opening Was Done At One Week, One Month And Three Months Intervals.

Results: Statistical Analysis Was Performed Using SPSS (Statistical Package For The Social Sciences- IBM? SPSS? Statistics Version 20 For Windows, IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA). There Were No Statistically Significant Differences Between Both Groups In Maximal Mouth Opening Measurements At The Different Observation Periods. But We Also Found That The Mouth Opening In Single Fracture Site Group Showed Higher Values Than In Multiple Fracture Sites Group. This Difference Was Statistically Significant After 1 Week And Three Months & It Occurred Faster In Intervention Group (K Plate) Conclusion: Both Methods Offered High Performance In Management Of Mandibular Angle Fractures. However, (K) Plate Group Had Faster Return To Mouth Opening As (K) Plate Is A 3D Single Plate. Its Insertion Needs Less Dissection Of Tissues & Less Operation Time Which Lead To Less Postoperative Edema & Faster Regain Of Mouth Opening.

Aim: Evaluation Of The Ability Of Bypassing Separated Rotary NiTi Instruments According To Their Different Cross Sections And The Sealing Ability Of Different Sealing Materials Over The Separated Instrument.

Materials and Methods: This Study Was Conducted On 75 Mandibular Mesio Buccal Canals Of Mandibular Molar. Specimens Were Randomly Divided To Two Groups, Group 1 Assessing The Bypass Ability Of Apically Separated Instruments With Different Cross Sections, Group 2 Assessing The Effect Of Different Obturation Materials Over Apically Separated Instruments With Different Cross Sections. Group 1 Divided To 3 Subgroups PTN, PTU And Endostar (n=25). Group 2(n=45) Divided To 9 Groups According To Both The Separated Filetype (PTN, PTU Or Endostar) And The Obturation Material (Biodentine, MTA Or Gutta Percha) (n=5). Specimens Of Each Group Were Instrumented By Its Filesystem And Filesof Size #25 Were Notched To A Depth Of Half The Instrument Thickness With A Disc At A Point 3 Mm From The Tip Of The Instrument And Then Driven Into The Canals Until The Instrument Is Separated. Then Bypassing Trials Were Done And To Evaluate The Success Of The Procedure A Parallel Radiograph Was Done While The Apical Microleakage Was Assessed By Dye Penetration Method. Data Was Statistically Analyzed Using One-way ANOVA Followed By Tukey?s Post Hoc Test. The Significance Level Was Set At P?0.05 Within All Tests

Results: The Results Of Group 1 Showed That There Was No Significantdifference Between The Three Groups. Group 2 Showed That There Was No Significantdifference For The Microleakage According To The Type Of The Separated Filewhile There Was A Significantdifference Between The Three Obturation Materials As The Biodentine Showed The Least Amount Of Leakage Followed By MTA And The Gutta Percha Showed The Greatest Amount Of Leakage.

Conclusions: Within The Limitation Of This Study, The Cross Section Of Separated Fragment May Not Have A Great Effect On The Ability Of Being Bypassed. The Type Of Obturation May Have More Effective Role Than The Type Of Instrument Retained.

Background: MIH Is Considered An Example Of Life Time Prevalence Where It Occurred At Some Time Before The Examination And Till The Time Of Recording The Data The Defect Still Exists And Remains All The Life. So Prevalence Studies Are Important For Patients And Dental Practitioner To Apply Appropriate Measures In Order To Limit The Effect Of MIH.

Aim: To Assess The Prevalence Of MIH Among A Group Of Egyptian Children Aged From 8-12 Years Old, In Dakahlia Governorate Schools.Methodology: The Study Was Carried Out On 10% Of Children Aged From 8 To 12 Years Old Who Attended Primary Governmental Schools In Dakahlia Governorate. Personal Data As Well As Medical History And Any Previous Dental History Were Recorded For Each Child In A Custom Made Examination Chart. Clinical Examination Was Carried Out In The School Laboratory Or An Empty Class, In Day Light. Teeth Were Cleaned Gently Using Gauze Then Wet With Saliva During Examination. A Disposable Diagnostic Set Was Used For Each Patient To Detect The Presence Or Absence Of MIH And Its Severity Based On European Academy Of Pediatric Dentistry Criteria And Scores Were Recorded In The Chart.

Results: The Prevalence Of MIH In The Present Study Was (5.8%) Among 52968 Examined Egyptian Children In Dakahlia Governorate Schools, 51.5% Were Females While 48.5% Were Male. Conclusion: Prevalence Of MIH In This Study Was 5.8% With Female Predilection And The Most Common Degree Of Severity Of MIH In This Studied Population Was Mild Degree

Purpose: To Characterize Of Nano Zirconia-alumina Composites As Dental Implant Materials Regarding To Microstructural Analysis And Mechanical Properties.

Materials and Methods: It Included Characterization And Testing Of Different Nano Zirconia-alumina Composites In Form Of Zirconia Toughened Alumina (ZTA) Gp And Alumina Toughened Zirconia (ATZ) Gp Of The Ceramic Composites. In The Current Work, 70 Specimens For The Testing Procedure Would Be Evaluated Regarding The Mechanical Tests. Vickers Indenter Would Indent Specimens With A Loading Weight Of 2 Kg For 5 Sec To Produce Indentation. The Fracture Toughness Could Be Measured Through Niihara Formula.

Results: The Present Study Showed That Vickers Hardness Increased By Increasing The Alumina Content. So, Those Of ZTA Gp Were Higher Than Those Of ATZ Gp. While Fracture Toughness Increased With Increasing Amount Of ZrO2, So, These Properties Of ATZ Group Were Higher Than Those Of ZTA Group.

Conclusions: Zirconia- Alumina (ZrO2-Al2O3) Composites With Enhanced Properties Were Successfully Prepared. Different Compositions Were Tested And The Maximization Of Properties Was Studied. Three Compositions Of ATZ Composites, (80 ZrO2 20 Al2O3), (85 ZrO2 15 Al2O3) And (90 ZrO2 10 Al2O3) Were Tested Alongside With Other Three Compositions Of ZTA Composites, (80 Al2O3 20 ZrO2), (85 Al2O3 15 ZrO2) And (90 Al2O3 10 ZrO2).

Aim: The Present Study Aimed To Evaluate And Compare Of The Incidence And Propagation Of Apical Cracks After Root Canal Obturation Using Lateral Compaction And Vertical Compaction Technique.

Materials and Methods: A Total Of 20 Human Mandibular Single Rooted Premolars With Single Straight Root Canals Were Used In This Study. After Decoronation, One Millimeter From The Apex Of Each Tooth Was Ground Perpendicular To The Long Axis To Remove Apical Ramifications.Instrumentation Was Done Using Fanta Rotary Filesto File40 Taper 4%. Samples Were Randomly Divided Into Two Experimental Groups (n = 10) According To The Obturation Technique Used Either Lateral Compaction Or Warm Vertical Compaction Using Totalfillbioceramic Sealer. Four Digital Images Of The Resected Apical Root Surface Were Recorded For Each Specimen, Baseline, After Preparation, Immediately After Flling, And After 14 Days. The Images Were Then Inspected For The Presence Of Any New Apical Cracks And Propagation. Mann-Whitney U Test Was Used To Compare Between The Two Groups. Friedman?s Test Followed By Dunn?s Test Was Used To Study The Changes Within Each Group

Results: After Instrumentation; There Was No Statistically Significantdifference Between Incidence Of Cracks In The Two Groups (P-value = 1, Effect Size = 1). Both Groups Showed The Same Incidence Of Cracks (80%). After Obturation As Well As After 14 Days; There Was No Statistically Significantdifference Between Incidence Of Cracks In The Two Groups (P-value = 0.474, Effect Size = 2.25) And (P-value = 0.474, Effect Size = 2.25), Respectively. Warm Vertical Compaction Group Showed Higher Incidence Of Cracks Than Lateral Condensation Group (100% And 80%, Respectively). Warm Vertical Compaction Technique Is 2.25 Folds Prone To Crack Compared To Lateral Condensation Technique. After Obturation As Well As After 14 Days; Lateral Condensation Group Showed Statistically Significantlyhigher Crack Propagation Measurements Than Warm Vertical Compaction Group (P-value = 0.039, Effect Size = 1.099) And (P-value = 0.039, Effect Size = 1.099), Respectively.

Conclusions: Dentinal Defects Were More Significantlyattributed To The Role Of Root Canal Instrumentation Rather Than The Type Of Obturation Technique.

Purpose : To Determine The Effect Of Material Type And Restoration Thickness On The Fracture Resistance Of Posterior Occlusal Veneers Made From Polymer Infiltrate Glass Ceramic And Lithium Disilicate. Methods : Twenty Extracted Mandibular Second Molars Were Collected . Occlusal Surface Was Prepared With The Aid Of Triple Wheel Stone For Standard Preparation In The Enamel Surface And Scanned For CAD/CAM Fabrication. They Were Fabricated Of Lithium Disilicate (E Max) And Polymer Infiltrate Glass Ceramic (Vita Enamic) With Thicknesses Of 1 Mm And 1.5 Mm (N=10) Then Cemented With Self Adhesive Resin Cement. All Samples Were Vertically Loaded Till Fracture With Universal Machine Test For Recording Fracture Resistance Values. Strength Values Were Statistically Analyzed With Two Ways ANOVA (significance Level 0.05)Results : Fracture Resistance Mean Values For Samples Of IPS E.max CAD 1 Mm (II-L 1), 1.5 Mm (II-L2), Vita Enamic 1 Mm (IP-1), 1.5 Mm (IP-2) Were 1421.2?233.8 N, 1614.1?242.4N, 1539.3?282.5 N, 2079.8?237 N Respectivly. Statistical Analyses Revealed That, Significantdifference Was Found Between Different Thicknesses For Vita Enamic Sub-groups. Vita Enamic Showed Higher Significant Strength Value Than E Max In Samples With Higher Thickness Of 1.5 Mm.Conclusion : Occlusal Veneer Of Both Thicknesses Found To Be Toralable For Occlusal Masticatory Forces With Satisfactory Acceptance. All Tested Occlusal Veneer With Both Materials Proved To Withstand Normal And Parafunctional Masticatory Forces. Materials and Methods: 15 Patients (20 Sites) Were Selected, Fiveof Them With Bilateral Posterior Atrophic Mandibles Divided Blindly And Randomly Into Two Equal Groups: 1. Control Group Treated With Conventional Titanium Mesh, 2. Study Group Treated With Patient Specificpolyether Ether Ketone Mesh. Clinical Evaluation Included Patient Satisfaction, Rate Of Soft Tissue Dehiscence All Over Six Months Follow-up Was Done.. The Operating Time Was Also Measured During The Surgery.

Results: Study Group Offered Lower Dehiscence Rate, Higher Patient Satisfaction And Less Intra-operative Timing. The Lower Dehiscence Rate Was Observed Both Immediately And Six-months PostoperativelyConclusion: Our Results Suggest That Using Patient SpecificPEEK Mesh Would Offer Lower Dehiscence Rate, Lesser Intraoperative Time And Higher Patient Satisfaction.

Introduction: The Purpose Of This Study Was To Assess The Antibacterial Activity Of BioRoot?RCS Sealer And AH Plus Sealer In Comparison To Tubli SealTM Sealer On Enterococcus Fecalis Biofilmby Using Dentin Block Infection Model And Confocal Laser Scanning Electron Microscope. Methods: E. Faecalis Bacteria Was Used As A Test Organism. Forty Two Dentin Specimens Were Prepared From A Human Single Rooted Teeth Infected With E. Faecalis Biofilmsand Incubated For 3 Weeks. The Tested Sealers (BioRoot? RCS Sealer, AH Plus Sealer And Tubli SealTM Sealer) Were Mixed According To Manufacturer?s Instructions, Then Added To The Root Canal Wall Of The Dentin Specimen In Equal Thickness And Placed At 370C In 100% Relative Humidity For 1, 7, And 30 Days. The Ratio Of Dead And Live Bacteria Inside The Dentinal Tubule Was Measured By Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope.

Results: More Bacteria Were Killed In The Two Sealer Groups (BioRoot? RCS Sealer, AH Plus Sealer) Than Tubli SealTM Sealer. BiorootTM RCS Sealer And Tubli SealTM Sealer Showed A Statistically Significantbacterial Killing At All 3 Time Points (p<0.05). AH Plus And Tubli SealTM Sealers At 7 Days Showed No Statistical Difference But At 30 Days, The 3 Sealers Were Statistically Different.

Conclusions: The 3 Endodontic Root Canal Sealers Had Antibacterial Effects Against E. Faecalis In The Dentinal Tubules. Bioroot? RCS Sealer And AH Plus Had Superior Antibacterial Effects Compared To Tubli SealTM Sealer.
