ABSTRACT
Objective: To Detect Influence Of Bend-back Of The NiTi Wires During Leveling And Alignment On The Maxillary Incisors.

Materials and Methods: The Sample Comprised 42 Females And Males Aging About 20+2 Years. They Were Randomly Allocated Into Two Groups: Control Group (A) And Intervention Group (B) With Bend-back Of All Leveling Arch Wires. Lateral Cephalomtric Radiographs Were Performed And The Data Were Statistically Analyzed.

Results: Significant Increase In The Maxillary Incisors? Proclination Was Manifested In Both Groups, Where There Was Increase In The U1/PP, U1/NA And U1-NA(mm) Measurements.

Conclusions: Bend-back Of The Niti Wires During The Leveling And Alignment Stages Did Not Prevent Or Decrease The Incisors? Proclination Of The Maxillary Incisors.

ABSTRACT


Aim: Is To Compare The Effect Of Pulpotec And Ca(OH)2 Intra-coronal Dressing On Inter-appointment Pain Relief For Symptomatic Posterior Teeth With Acute Pulpitis With Periodontitis.

Materials and Methods: The Trial Design Is A Parallel Double Blind Randomized Controlled Study; The Patients In This Study Were Randomly Assigned Into Two Groups, 22 Patients In Each Group (using Random Allocation Sequence That Was Done In The Center Of Evidence-based Dentistry ? Cairo University) GROUP A: Will Receive Ca(OH)2 Dressing And GROUP B: Will Receive Pulpotec Dressing. All Selected Patients Were Subjected To Pulpotomy. The Primary Outcome Was The Degree Of Pain Relieving After The Procedure By 8, 12, 24, 48 Hrs And Was Measured Using The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Secondary Outcome Was Following Up Pain Using The (VAS) After 1, 3 And 6 Mos. And To Evaluate Procedure Effect Both Clinically And Radiographically.

Results: The Outcome Of This Study Showed That Using Ca(OH)2 And Pulpotec As Intracoronal Dressing Materials Resulted In Clinically Significant Reduction In Post Endodontic Pain At All Post-operative Follow-up Periods (8,12,24) Hrs, While Significant Reduction Of Pain For Pulpotec At The 48 Hrs Of The Post-operative Follow-up Period. After 8 Hrs,�Group B Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Prevalence Of No Pain And Mild Pain. Group A Showed Higher Prevalence Of Moderate Pain.�After 12 Hrs And 24 Hrs,�Group B Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Prevalence Of No Pain. Group A Showed Higher Prevalence Of Mild Pain. After�48�hours,�there Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between The Two Groups. After 1 Mo,�Group B Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Prevalence Of�no Pain. Group A Showed Higher Prevalence Of�severe�pain. All Cases In Group A Needed Root Canal Treatment After 3 And 6 Mos In Comparison To One Case In Group B That Needed Root Canal Treatment After 6 Mos Due To Persistence Of Pain On Percussion. Conclusion: Although Ca(OH)2 Succeeded In Relieving Pain Of Acute Pulpitis With Apical Periodontitis Within 48 Hours From Its Initial Insertion In Pulp Chamber; However, It Failed To Relief Pain Over Long Period Of Time And Failed To Improve The Periodontal Condition. While High Levels Of Effectiveness Of Pulpotec, For Sealing The Pulp Stumps Of Teeth Treated For Pulpitis By The Vital Pulpotomy Method And In Relieving Acute Pain In Apical Periodontitis.

MICROTENSILE DENTIN BOND STRENGTH OF ORMOCER (ORGANICALLY MODIFIED CERAMIC) BASED RESIN COMPOSITE USING CONVENTIONAL VERSUS ORMOCER BASED ETCH AND RINSE ADHESIVES : INVITRO STUDY

ABSTRACT


Aim: To Evaluate The Bond Strength Of Ormocer Based Resin Composite Using Conventional Versus Ormocer Based Etch And Rinse Adhesives To Dentin Using Microtensile Bond Strength Test And To Assess Tooth Restoration Interface Using Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM).

Materials and Methods: A Total 66 Premolars Were Collected And Divided Into Two Main Groups According To Type Of Adhesive System Used Either Ormocer Based Adhesive System Or Conventional One, Each Group Was Further Divided Into Three Subgroups According To Storage Time Either 24 Hrs, One Or Three Month. Teeth Were Sectionned To Beams; And These Beams Were Subjected To Microtensile Bond Strength Using A Universal Testing Machine. Then The Fractured Specimens Were Collected And Examined Under Enviromental Scaning Electron Microscope (ESEM) To Analyze Modes Of Failure.

Results: The Result Of Current Study Showed That Ormocer Based Adhesive Recorded The Highest Significant Mean Microtensile Bond Strength Value Compared To Conventional One. Also, Regarding Storage Period, It Was Found That In Both Adhesives The 24 Hrs Group Showed Highest Mean Microtensile Bond Value Strength Followed By One Month And The Least Value Recorded After Three Months. Conclusion: Ormocer-based Resin Composite Should Be Used With Its Matching Specially Formulated Ormocer Adhesive System Because Of Their Chemical Affinity To Each Other. Also An Artificial Aging Has A Noticeable Influence On The Bond Strength Of Both Tested Adhesives.

Objectives: Traumatic Oral Lesions May Be Due To Physical, Thermal Or Chemical Injuries. Wound Healing By Secondary Intention Is Divided Into Three Phases: Inflammation, Proliferation, And Remodeling. Stem Cell Based Therapies Are Being Investigated For The Treatment Of Many Conditions. Miura Et Al. 2003 Isolated Stem Cells From Pulp Tissue Remnants Of Exfoliated Deciduous Teeth And They Termed Them Stem Cells From Human Exfoliated Deciduous Teeth (SHED). SHED Was Found To Have A Higher Proliferating Rate Than DPSCs And BM-MSCs Which Suggest That They Are A Less Mature Population Of Multipotent Stem Cells. Design: Thirty Male Albino Rats Were Utilized, Fifteen As Control Group And Fifteen As SHED Group. The Tongues Were Dissected And Examined Histologically.

Results: The Histopathological Results Showed Complete Coverage Of The Surface Of The SHED Group At 7 Days While The Control Group Was Still Showing An Open Ulcer. Conclusion: SHED Showed Better Healing Of Induced Wounds Compared With Control Group.

PREVALENCE OF SUPERNUMERARY TEETH AMONG PATIENTS WITH ORAL CLEFTS

ABSTRACT
Objective: The Purpose Of This Study Was To Evaluate The Prevalence Of Supernumerary Teeth Among Egyptian Children With Oral Clefts. Study Design: This Study Was Designed As An Observational (cross-sectional Study). A Group Of 43 Egyptian Children With Oral Clefts Were Recruited In The Study. The Frequency Of Supernumerary Teeth Was Assessed Using Clinical Examination And CBCT Radiographic Investigation.

Results: Among The Total Study Sample 7 Patients (16.3%) Had Supernumerary Teeth. Six Patients (14%) Had One Supernumerary Tooth And One Patient (2.3%) Had Two Supernumerary Teeth. All Supernumerary Teeth Were Detected At The Area Of Upper Incisors. Conclusion: Patients Affected By An Oral Cleft Are Subjected For Higher Incidence Of Dental Anomalies Such As Supernumerary Teeth.

Statement Of The Problem: High Failure Rates Of Porcelain Laminate Veneers Have Been Attributed To The Exposure Of Dentin Surface During Preparation Which Greatly Decreases The Bonding Strength At The Dentin-cement Interface. Natural And Synthetic Cross-linking Agents Have Been Introduced To Restore Dentin Function And Enhance Bonding Strength.

Purpose: The Aim Of This Study Was To Evaluate The Clinical Performance Of E.max CAD Veneers Bonded With And Without Using Grape Seed Extract As A Natural Crosslinking Agent Before Bonding.

Materials and Methods: A Total Of 20 Ceramic Laminate Veneers Were Included In The Study And Completed By One Operator (the Researcher). The Ceramic Laminate Veneers Were Fabricated By One Experienced Dental Technician. The Operator Followed The Five Phases Of Laminate Veneers Fabrication. For The Intervention Group, We Applied Grape Seed Extract (GSE) In The Gel Form To The Previously Etched Tooth Structure, Then It?s Washed Away With Water & Gently Dried Before Proceeding With Conventional Bonding Steps As The Control Group. Follow Up Sessions Were Done Every Three Months For One Year. This Was Performed By An Experienced, Blinded Investigator. Data Were Recorded And Statistically Analyzed Using The Chi-square Test And The Significance Level Was Set At P � 0.05.

Results: There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between (Group I) And (Group II) Where (p=1) As Both Groups Showed (100%) Alpha In All Time Periods. Conclusion: Within The Limitations Of This Clinical Study, IPS E.max CAD Laminate Veneers Bonded With Both Techniques, With And Without Using GSE As Natural Crosslinking Agent, Revealed Successful Clinical Performance Regarding Marginal Adaptation.

COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF THE SHAPING ABILITY OF THREE-NICKEL TITANIUM ROTARY SYSTEMS USING CONE BEAM COMPUTER TOMOGRAPHY (AN IN-VITRO STUDY)

ABSTRACT


Aim: The Aim Of This Study Was To Measure The Root Canal Transportation And Centering Ability Of XP-shaper And Compare It With TRUShape And Hyflex EDM Ni-Ti Rotary System. Materials&Methods: Sixty Human Permanent Mandibular First Molars Were Decoronaized, Distal Roots Were Separated From The Mesial Ones. The Working Length Of Each Canal Was Determined By Subtracting 1 Mm From The Apical Foramen Before Scanning. All The Roots Were Scanned Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) To Detect The Canal Shape Before Instrumentation. Samples Were Randomly Divided Into 3 Equal Groups (n = 20 Canals Per Group) As Follow: Group I; Roots Were Mechanically Prepared Using Hyflex EDM Single File (size 25/~), Group II; Roots Were Mechanically Prepared Using TRUShape File (size 30, Taper 0.04) And Group III: Roots Were Shaped Using The XP-shaper File (size 30, Taper 0.01). The Root Canals Were Scanned After The Mechanical Preparation Using CBCT Then Pre And Post Instrumentation Scans Were Superimposed To Evaluate The Degree Of Transportation As Well As The Centering Ability Of The Tested Instruments. Data Were Analyzed Using Kruskal-Wallis Test For Comparing The Three Systems, While Friedman?s Test Was Used To Compare Between The Root Levels.

Results: Results Displayed That, As Regards The Total Amount Of Transportation, There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between The Three Systems. By Comparing Between The Root Levels, TRUShape System Showed That There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between 3 And 5 Mm Levels; Both Showed Statistically Significantly Higher Median Amount Of Transportation Than 7 Mm Level. As Regards The Total Centering Ratio, Hyflex EDM Showed The Statistically Significant Highest Median Centering Ability.

Conclusions: It Was Concluded That The Three Rotary Systems Preserved The Original Canal Anatomy Regarding That Hyflex EDM Possess The Highest Centering Ability.

Objectives: Head And Neck Cancers Are Now Common Worldwide. One Of The Most Commonly Used Methods To Treat Head And Neck Cancer Is Irradiation. However, Irradiation Has Some Side Effects That May Affect Patients? Life, So It Is Important To Find A Convenient Way To Reduce Those Side Effecs. The Current Study Was Performed To Investigate And Compare The Effect Of Microvesicles To Bone Marrow Stem Cells On Levels Of Secretory Immunoglobulin A In Parotid Salivary Gland Of Irradiated Albino Rats. The Parotid Glands Were Also Examined Histologically. Design: Forty Eight Male Albino Rats Were Utilized, Sixteen As Irradiated Group (Positive Control) And Thirty Two As Bone Marrow Stem Cells And Microvesicles Treatment Groups. The Parotid Glands Were Dissected And Levels Of Secretory Immunoglobulin A Were Detected By ELISA.

Results: The ELISA Results Showed That Administration Of Bone Marrow Stem Cells And Microvesicles Decreased Levels Of Secretory Immunoglobulin A That Were Elevated As A Result Of Irradiation. Histological Examination Also Revealed Better Gland Morphology In The Bone Marrow Stem Cells As Well As Microvesicles Treated Groups.

Conclusions: The Most Prominent Ameliorative Effect Was Found Associated With Microvesicles Administration. Bone Marrow Stem Cells Have Shown Ameliorative Effects On Parotid Glands As Well. However, Further Studies Are Required To Assess The Safety Of These Methods.

If The Friction Resistance Is High, Slow Progress And Unnecessary Elongation Of The Treatment Time Might Result. Consequently, A Practitioner Must Apply Greater Mechanical Forces To Overcome The Frictional Force Progressively Throughout The Treatment. Friction Is Affected By Physical And Biological Factors. ABSTRACT
Aim Of The Study: The Aim Of The Present Study Was To Evaluate And Compare The Postoperative Pain After The Use Of Two Different Intracanal Medicaments: Modified Triple Antibiotic Paste (MTAP) And Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2 In Two Visit Root Canal Treatment After 4, 24 And 48 Hours Utilizing A Numeric Rate Scale (NRS). Methodology: Fifty Patients With Asymptomatic Necrotic Anterior And Premolar Teeth Were Randomly Assigned Into Two Groups; Experimental Group Medicated With1mg/ml Of Readymade Modified Triple Antibiotic Paste (MTAP) And Control Group : Medicated With Calcium Hydroxide Intracanal Medicament Prepared By Mixing 100 Mg Powder With 1ml Distilled Water. Postoperative Pain Was Assessed For Both Groups At 4, 24 And 48 Hours After The First Visit Using A Numerical Rating Scale (NRS).

Results: There Was A Statistically Significant Difference Between Both Groups After 4 Hours Postoperatively, While There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between Both Groups At 24 And 48 Hours. Regarding Pain Incidence, The Overall Occurrence Of Pain And Its Category Was Not Statistically Significant Between Both Groups. In MTAP Group; There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between Median NRS Scores Over Time. However, In Ca(OH)2 Group : There Was No Statistically Significant Difference Between NRS Scores Comparing 24 Hours With 48 Hours, While There Was A Statistically Significant Decrease In NRS In All Other Time Periods. Conclusion: Triple Antibiotic Paste As Anintracanal Medication Showed To Be Effective In Reducing Postoperative Pain When Used In Necrotic Teeth Compared To Calcium Hydroxide.
